InstaGroup’s external wall insulation helped to turn a cold Oxfordshire house into a warm and attractive home.
Following an enquiry from our website, InstaGroup was invited to survey a characterful 2-bedroom end of terrace property in Oxfordshire. The house dated from around the 1800s and was sited at the Old Co-Op, High Street, in the pretty Cotswold village of Hook Norton.
The householders told us that their home felt cold, and it was difficult to keep warm. We arranged an expert home energy survey as soon as it was convenient for them, so we could identify and solve issues with home heat loss.
Our survey soon found that the property had solid walls. It’s estimated that 35-40% of home heating can escape through uninsulated solid walls1 so we recommended installing external wall insulation (also called Solid Wall insulation). This would help to keep in all of that precious warmth, making the home feel cosier and more comfortable – as well as drastically reducing energy bills.
With an external wall installation we fix insulation panels to the outside walls of the property. This means minimum disturbance to home life, as most of the work takes place outside. We finish the job with fresh, weatherproof render, and the results improve the whole home: the property not only feels warmer inside, it looks smarter on the outside too.
We also discovered that the property needed Loft insulation. As warm air rises up from the rooms below, a home with an uninsulated loft or roof space can lose around 25% of its heat2.
Loft insulation works to lock all of that lost heat inside, keeping the home warmer and potentially saving hundreds of pounds every year on bills.
InstaGroup insulated the loft to deliver benefits for the customer straight away. For the external walls, our team installed a highly effective 90mm EPS (Expanded Polystyrene System) to all treatable elevations at the property (front, back and side walls). We also used Aerogel to insulate the draughty, disused chimney breasts. Our recommendations would help to save energy all around the home.
The entire installation took one month. This was slightly longer than usual as there were unavoidable delays due to weather conditions and the supply of new verge trims. The specified verge trims were needed to correctly finish off the roofline and areas of ‘cold bridging’ which would ensure the best performance of the external wall insulation. We kept the customer fully informed at all times with what was happening and why, and we thank them for their patience and trust in our professionalism.
We are pleased to say that the householders are very happy with the finished project. They are enjoying all the benefits of their installation from InstaGroup, with a warmer home and a smart makeover for their property.
