The £1 billion energy-saving Scheme is designed to help more people than before. Thousands of households who don’t currently qualify for Government support to insulate their homes could apply for funding.
People living in homes with an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of D-G within Council Tax bands A-D in England and A-E in Scotland and Wales
Low-income and vulnerable households living in homes with an EPC of D-G. This group could include people who are elderly, those who are vulnerable to the effects of living in a cold home, or people who are struggling to afford to heat their homes.
The Scheme is intended to run for three years – until March 2026 – and aims to upgrade some of the least energy-efficient homes in Great Britain.
The Great British Insulation Scheme will run alongside the current Energy Company Obligation (ECO4) scheme, but rather than taking a ‘whole house’ approach, it will mostly cover single insulation installations.
It will also support existing schemes like the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) and Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), helping those who need it most to save money and energy at home.
It’s estimated that the Scheme will improve the energy efficiency of around 300,000 homes through installing improvements such as Cavity Wall insulation and Loft insulation.
The Great British Insulation Scheme will give many more people the chance to benefit from a warmer home and energy savings. Funding will reduce energy waste at home, cut carbon emissions and bring down bills for thousands of householders every year.
