InstaGroup has been insulating homes in the Worcester area through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF). We worked with major building contractor Wates, helping to upgrade a number of properties by installing External Wall insulation.
From August 2022 to January 2023 InstaGroup joined the building contractor Wates on a housing project in Worcester to insulate homes for local tenants.
The clients were Citizen Housing and the Rooftop Housing Group. These organisations improve properties in areas of need, with the aim of offering high quality, affordable homes to local communities. Whether improving homes for rent, sale, or through shared ownership, they expect the highest standards of workmanship and finish.
InstaGroup was chosen for the project, and the installations were carried out through the Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF), the UK-wide Government scheme to help save energy at home and cut carbon emissions.
The dwellings in Worcester were built in the 1950s and had no effective insulation.
About a third of home heating can escape through uninsulated walls1, so these houses were very hard to keep warm. The energy bills were also a lot higher than they needed to be.
To answer these issues, we installed External Wall insulation (also called Solid Wall insulation). InstaGroup’s highly durable InstaClad wall insulation system was securely fixed onto the outside walls of each property, to help stop the heat loss.
Our professionally installed insulation means warmer houses and lower heating bills, improving home life for residents.
As well as saving on energy and being more comfortable to live in, our installation restored the outside look of the properties.
In order to meet planning requirements and make the upgraded houses fit in with their surroundings, our team were asked to create a brickwork effect for the outside walls. The clever use of wall stencils produced a neat brick pattern on top of the insulation boards, which were then rendered over and weatherproofed. When the stencils were removed an attractive brick effect remained, giving a smart finish to each home.
A late start to this contract meant the project extended from the summer months of August 2022 up to the winter months of January 2023. This was a challenge, as wintry conditions and cold temperatures are not ideal when installing External Wall insulation.
However, the InstaGroup installers managed to ensure a high quality finish during a period of extremely cold weather, and the installs were all completed within the required timelines.
The InstaGroup on-site supervisors worked closely with the main building contractor Wates to deliver an efficient installation and fulfil client expectations. Everyone was very happy with the results.
The residents in Worcester are now enjoying all the benefits of External Wall insulation installed by the dedicated InstaGroup team.
